Gundeldinger Koordination

The GuKo brings people, organisations and ideas together. It acts as the interface to the administration and implements neighbourhood participation in the Gundeli under § 55 of the constitution of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. It supports neighbourhood projects and creates space for dialogue and involvement, for a lively and diverse neighbourhood.

The GuKo initiates and develops its own projects for the Gundeli and accompanies their implementation. At the same time, as a cooperation partner, it supports initiatives and projects of associations, organisations and other neighbourhood actors.

The GuKo is financially supported through service agreements with the Canton of Basel-Stadt. In addition, the GuKo receives project-specific financial support from various organisations.

What the Gundeli is made of

• 116.5 hectares (1.165 km²) – about the size of 163 football pitches
• 18,938 residents
• 41.4 % foreign nationals
• 5 larger green spaces and parks
• 1 mammoth tooth: found in May 1970 in a building pit on Pfeffingerstrasse
• 1 carnival clique: Fasnachtsgesellschaft Gundeldingen
• 4 castles: the Gundeli once had 4 castles, 2 of which survive: «Thomas Platter-Haus» and «Vorderes Gundeldingen»
• 1 ice rink: «Kunschti» Margarethen
• 1 newspaper: Gundeldingerzeitung
