Dabei zeigte sich der Dreispitz als ein aussergewöhnlicher Ort zwischen Industriegeschichte, Architektur, Kunst, Bildung und unterschiedlichsten Kulturen.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch3>Vom Landwirtschaftsgebiet zum Stadtquartier\u003C\u002Fh3>\u003Cp>Der Name \u003Cstrong>Dreispitz\u003C\u002Fstrong> kommt von der markanten \u003Cstrong>keil- bzw. dreiecksförmigen Form\u003C\u002Fstrong> des Areals. Ursprünglich war das Gebiet Landwirtschaftsland und gehörte ab 1840 zunehmend zum Besitz von Christoph Merian. Ab \u003Cstrong>1901\u003C\u002Fstrong> entwickelte es sich zum Materiallagerplatz und später zu einem wichtigen Logistik- und Gewerbestandort. Von 1922 bis 2007 befand sich hier auch das Basler Zollfreilager.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Heute ist der Dreispitz längst mehr als ein Industrieareal: Gewerbe, Dienstleistungen, Bildung, Kultur, Freizeit und erste Wohnnutzungen treffen aufeinander. Ihre Idee war nicht ein völlig durchgeplanter Stadtteil, sondern eine Weiterentwicklung der vorhandenen Vielfalt.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Überall begegnet man \u003Cstrong>Kunst im öffentlichen Raum\u003C\u002Fstrong>, ungewöhnlichen Gebäuden und Spuren verschiedener Nutzungen. Dazu kommen Orte wie das HEK und die Hochschule, aber auch ganz alltägliche und überraschende Angebote.
